A ductless mini split pairs an indoor air handler with an outdoor heat pump or air conditioner and sends conditioned air straight into the room. That makes it the answer for an attic, a basement, a garage or an addition where extending ductwork would be costly, and a good supplement to central air.
The practical benefits stack up. The fans change speed with the temperature in the house, so the system runs slower once it reaches the setting. We recommend a setup based on the layout and square footage of your house. Add more than one air handler and each indoor unit gets its own thermostat, so you create separate zones and stop paying to cool a room nobody uses.
Mini splits involve refrigerant lines and high-voltage electrical connections, so this is not a weekend project. Monthly filters, yearly checkups
Mini splits are very reliable, but they still have moving parts. The reusable filters need washing at least once a month, more often with pets in the house or a smoker. When something does fail, whether a clogged filter or a faulty connection, we repair all makes and models, even systems someone else installed.
